Shibori Tie-Dye With Natural Dyes
An introduction to natural dyeing using plant-based colour and simple resist techniques.
In this two-hour session at The Art Room, you’ll explore Shibori — a traditional Japanese method of folding, binding and shaping cloth before dyeing to create pattern and variation. We’ll work with natural dyes made from onion skins and turmeric, learning how fabric preparation and technique influence the final result.
While the dye pots are heating, you will have the opportunity to have a go at painting with botanical paints and inks.
We’ll be working with 100% preloved cotton fabric, pre-treated with soya to help the natural dyes bond effectively. The focus is on considered making, using accessible materials and traditional processes.
No experience is necessary. All materials are provided.
