Beginners Batik
Batik is a method of decorating fabric using wax to resist dye, creating patterns and areas of colour as the fabric is dyed.
This workshop is an introduction to the basic techniques of batik, suitable for people with little or no previous experience. You’ll begin by working on a small circular frame, using wax and fabric dye to create a simple decorative initial, symbol or motif. This gives you a chance to get used to applying the wax and see how it behaves when the dye is added. You’ll then move on to a larger circular frame and have a go at creating a more substantial design. There will be a selection of ocean-themed examples to copy, adapt or use as inspiration, or you can develop your own design.
The session will cover the basic process of applying wax and dye, with plenty of opportunity to experiment and see how the different stages affect the finished piece. All materials included.
