An intro to Colour Mixing
Colour can be surprisingly complicated, but it can also be fun when you have a bit of an idea what you’re doing.
Working with artist and tutor Rose Haddy, this session will explore how colours work and give you practical colour-mixing techniques that you can use in your own painting. You’ll look at how to mix a wide range of colours from a limited palette, how to adjust colour by changing its temperature, value and intensity, and how small changes in a mix can make a significant difference.
There’ll be demonstrations, exercises and plenty of time to experiment for yourself. You’ll build a better understanding of colour while actually mixing it, rather than just talking about it. Sometimes the best way to understand what a colour is doing is to make a bit of a mess and see what happens. You don’t need to be an experienced painter for this. Everyone occasionally produces a colour that looks absolutely nothing like the one in your head so there should be tips enough for all!
