About The Art Room Redruth

The Art Room is a quirky creative space tucked inside Knight’s Arcade, right in the heart of Redruth – opposite the cinema and next door to Home Ground Coffee Shop.

Once a furniture store, it’s now a warm, welcoming environment where you can relax, experiment, and get creative with no pressure or expectations. Just take time to do something for you.

We run a core programme of weekly creative sessions for adults and children, alongside a rolling calendar of art lessons and guest artist workshops. We also host creative parties (for children and adults!), team-building events, evening socials – and we’re always open to new ideas. If it supports creativity in our brilliant community, we’re all ears!

Facilities

The Art Room includes:

  • A large creative studio space
  • A small bar and kitchen
  • Toilets (wheelchair-friendly)

We’re located at the far end of the covered arcade and accessible via three small steps or a ramp suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with mobility needs. Inside, the space features:

  • Painted wooden flooring
  • Four extendable tables (flexible layout)
  • Free WiFi and an iMac with Spotify + speaker for music
  • Kitchen with fridge, double sink, kettle, 10L hot water urn and microwave

It’s perfect for workshops, meetings, parties or creative get-togethers – and available to hire when not in use.

Meet Tina

The Art Room is the dream project of Tina Varcoe – an artist, educator and creative community-builder who has lived in Redruth since 2011.

A qualified teacher with a passion for making creativity accessible to everyone, Tina taught at Cornwall College for over a decade, supporting A Level students, undergraduates, young people excluded from school, and adults with mental health challenges. After leading children’s art groups at Truro Arts, she founded her own ‘art clubs for grown-ups’ – playful, welcoming spaces where people could reconnect with their creativity.

Later, Tina worked with the Real Ideas Organisation supporting young people, but her love for community-based creativity never faded. She made the leap to focus on The Art Room full-time – and now brings her experience, warmth and energy to every session. (She’s also fully DBS-checked, of course!)
