Crackpot Comic Characters

Nick Brennan has been writing and drawing comic strips for the Beano and Dandy comics for over 30 years. In this fun workshop he’ll teach you how to create your very own crackpot comic characters!

Starting simply, you’ll develop and practice the skills you’ll need to produce a brand new cartoon character. After learning how to capture facial expressions, and drawing stick figures in a variety of poses, you’ll learn how to build the skills needed to design and draw your very own weird and wonderful character, probably in a very bizarre situation!

In addition to character design you’ll learn to draw all the extra bits that go into making a cartoon picture fun: speech balloons, sound effects, whizz lines and backgrounds – enough to tell a whole story in a single picture.

This fun workshop is suitable for absolutely everybody, whatever their skill level. Everything you’ll need will be provided, and throughout the workshop Nick will be helping with tonnes of tips and advice. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
