Intro to Pen and Wash

Artist and teacher Rose Haddy introduces you to lovely pen and wash techniques, using leafy plants as your subject matter.

You will explore how pen can be used to describe plants through expressive lines, marks and loose drawing, before(or even after) adding washes of diluted colour and tone. This is not about carefully drawing every leaf or staying inside the lines. The pen and wash approach allows the drawing and the ink or watercolour to work together, with room for movement, variation and happy accidents.

Rose will demonstrate a range of techniques and guide you through some exercises before you develop a piece of your own. The session is suitable for beginners as well as anyone who would like to explore a more expressive approach to painting.
